Beverly Venn Britting's Obituary
Beverly Venn Britting, 87, formerly of Kingston, NY, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2014 at her daughter’s home in Eustis, FL. Beverly was born in Utica, NY, on September 2, 1926 to Alfred F. and Genevieve Quinn Venn.
She graduated from Whitesboro Central High School in 1944. She completed training at Utica Memorial Hospital and received her license as a RN in 1947. After her youngest child was born, Beverly returned to school earning her AA (Valedictorian) from Ulster County Community College in 1967, her BA (Summa Cum Laude) from SUNY New Paltz in 1969 and her Master of Library Science from SUNY Albany in 1973. Beverly was employed by Kingston City Schools as a teacher and library media specialist for 31 years until her retirement in 1989.
Beverly was devoted to her family and to her work as a teacher. She had many interests including reading, gardening, photography, sewing and crafting, Sudoku and crossword puzzles, and internet browsing. After her retirement, she enjoyed frequent travels throughout New England and the Mid-Atlantic States. She was interested in local, national and world news and was well informed on many subjects. Beverly was a loving, intelligent, thoughtful woman with a wry sense of humor. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Beverly is survived by her beloved companion of more than 30 years, Leon Hobbs, of Fairport, NY; her daughter, Dianne Britting-Hayden (Dan Hayden) of Eustis, FL and her son, Kent Britting (Terry) of Jacksonville, FL; sisters, Vera Smith, Mahopac, NY and Helen Baranowski, Homestead, FL; sister-in-law, Rosemary Nicholson, Clinton, NY; granddaughter, Aida Britting, Philadelphia, PA; grandson-in-law, Julio Gomez, Jr. of Clayton, NJ; great-grandsons, Anthony Kandalepas, Jacksonville, FL and Isaiah Gomez, Clayton, NJ; step great-granddaughter, Adashia Gomez, Clayton, NJ; close friends, the family of Tam and Al Scheuer, Fairport, NY, the family of Randy and Sharri Hobbs, Chadds Ford, PA, John Hannum, Eustis, FL and Margaret Hayden, Eustis, FL; and many nieces and nephews. Beverly was predeceased by her parents; her former husband, Charles Britting; her son, Eric Britting; and her brother, Douglas Venn.
The family would especially like to thank JoAnne Bryant and Robyn Chavis for the excellent in-home care they gave Beverly; Kelly Higgins, ARNP, her primary care provider; and Dr. Ajit Hansalia and the staff of Cornerstone Hospice. Their collective efforts made it possible for Beverly to remain in the comfort of her home during the last few months.
The family will receive friends in the Hamlin & Hilbish Chapel on Friday, March 14th from 5 until 7 PM. Graveside services will be held in Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis at 11 AM on Saturday, March 15th with Pastor Jeff Bell officiating.
