Barbara Nan-Susan "Sue" Godwin's Obituary
Barbara Nan-Susan "Sue" Godwin of Scottish Highlands in Leesburg passed away on Sunday, September 19, 2021 at the age of 78. She was born in Baltimore, Maryland. She moved to Scottish Highlands in July 2002 from Apopka and previously lived in Gainesville. Sue had an illustrious career. She worked as a preschool and early childhood learning teacher. She was the assistant to the Chancellor Emeritus at the University of Florida and graduated with a degree in early childhood education. She also worked as Administrative Assistant for the federal government for many years.
Sue loved people and enjoyed spending time with her friends and neighbors in the Scottish Highlands community. She volunteered at their flea market, assisted with the community breakfasts, was a member of the Crafty Ladies, played Bridge and sang in numerous community shows. Sue attended Graceway Church in Leesburg. She also volunteered at the voting polls. Sue loved animals, especially dogs and horses. She enjoyed pet sitting for friends as well.
More than anything, she loved to spend time with her companion, Stanley Brooke. Together they went on cruises, enjoyed dancing and gambling and loved to eat out together.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Florence Ella Frey and James Eber Godwin, Jr. She is remembered and will be dearly missed by her daughters, Stacia Stephenson of Longwood, Tonya Haynes (Donnie) of Longwood and Persephone Godwin (Matt Richardson) of Los Angeles, California; grandchildren, Stephen Rivas, Jr. (Tiffany Zoumer) of Orlando, Ashley Bennett (Darryl) of Longwood, Anna Rivas of Kansas City, Kansas, Sarah Musselman (Nick) of McKinleyville, CA and Emily Giddens of Longwood; and
4 great-grandchildren; siblings Anne Bosch, James Powers (Elizabeth), Joan Ryan (Jim), Dorothy Powers, Edward Powers (Ellen), Patricia Eder and Jeanne Walcher.
A memorial ceremony will be scheduled soon. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared on the tribute wall.
