Arnold R. "Bob" Widmer's Obituary
Arnold R. “Bob” Widmer 93, of Altoona, passed away in Tampa on May 9, 2012. He was born in Williamsburg, Massachusetts and moved to Mount Dora in February 1922 with his parents Mabel P. and Arnold Emil Widmer. He joined the Service in 1941 and served nearly four years in Africa chasing Rommel, the Desert Fox, he was discharged from the U.S. Army Air Corp, when he came home he joined the National Guard which headquartered in Eustis. Bob was a retired L.P. Gas Specialist, a member of Eustis Lodge 1578 B.P.O.E., the American Legion of Mount Dora, the Moose and V.F.W. Post 8087 of Eustis. He is survived by his son Robert Raymond Widmer of Tavares, sister Betty Widmer Pierce McDonald of Maryville, Tennessee, several nieces and nephews and especially Cindy Beck of Lutz, Florida who has been his devoted guardian/caretaker for the last four years. Memorial Services were held in the Hamlin & Hilbish Chapel on Sunday, May 20th at 2 PM with V.F.W. Post 8087 of Eustis officiating. The final resting place is Pine Forest Cemetery, Mount Dora.
