Annah Elizabeth Sheldon's Obituary
Annah Elizabeth Sheldon, age 106, passed away peacefully early on Sunday, May 24, 2015. She was born August 21, 1908 in Afton, New York, to Erle D. Sheldon and Bessie Anna Guy Sheldon. Growing up in Binghamton, New York, Annah received her education degree from Cortland Normal School (now SUNY, Cortland). She was employed by the Binghamton City School District as a special education teacher for the physically and multiply challenged, retiring after 42 years of devoted service. She was a great support during her mother’s long widowhood. In 1976 she moved to Eustis, Florida, to join her brother, Cliff.
Annah became an active parishioner at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Eustis worshipping regularly and supporting its mission in a variety of ways. In 1987 Annah moved to Lakeview Terrace in Altoona, Florida, which became her home for the next 28 years. She entertained family and guests with grace--playing bridge and other card games, and treating grand-nieces and nephews to beautiful hand-knitted and crocheted creations. She was a sparkling conversationalist and had spirit and spunk to the end.
Annah was pre-deceased by her parents, sister Ina Louise Sheldon, and brother Charles Clifford Sheldon. She is survived by nephews Clifford G. (Ingrid) Sheldon, Ann Arbor, Michigan; Thomas E. (Virginia) Sheldon, Williamstown, Massachusetts; and David C. (Kathleen) Sheldon, West Kingston, Rhode Island, and their children and grandchildren who adored her. Also surviving are cousins Elizabeth Hayes and Nancy Howell.
The family wishes to extend its deepest gratitude to the staff and volunteers at Lakeview Terrace, all of whom gave her loving care and attention every day for many years. A memorial service will be scheduled for a later date at Lakeview Terrace followed by interment of her ashes at St. Thomas Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of one’s choice.
