Agnes Tomlin May's Obituary
Agnes Tomlin May 95, of Umatilla passed away on Monday, June 08, 2009. She was born April 29, 1914 in Pigeon Creek, Alabama. She grew up in Alabama.After meeting and marrying O.C. May, they moved to moved to Polk County, FL, then to Tavares, FL, and then to Umatilla FL until her death. She started work in a canning plant in Polk County and worked her way up to owning a grove and citrus company located in Dona Vista. The company still owns groves and land in the Lake County area. She loved her child, all her grandchildren and great grand children. She was predeceased by her husband O.C. May and her daughter Bette May Whitaker. She is survived by her siblings Bonnie, Bill, and Ben; her son -in - law John Whitaker; her grandchildren, Susan (Wayne), Clif, and Thomas (Kristin); great grand children Tony, Clifton, Alan, Benjamin, Courtney, and John Robert. She was an integral part of the First Baptist Church of Umatilla for over 50 years. She truly loved the Lord and gave unselfishly. She was a Sunday School teacher at Harry Anna crippled children's hospital that was located in Umatilla, for many years. She started a crisis center out of her garage 17 years ago, to help needy families. It then was moved to the Baptist Church in Umatilla, and now that center has now grown to a separate building that is located on the church property. It has served over 16,000 people just in the past year. "For I was hungry and you gave me food to eat…..Whatever you did for the least of these, you did for me." Matthew 25:34-40Her greatest pride was her family and she truly adored her grand children and great grandchildren. She took much pleasure whenever they would come to see her. Thanks for the many angels in her life; Myra Kicklighter, Jewel Daniels, Pinkey Blake, Cassandra Gillislee, Jerry Doyle, Sam and Annie Segar and many others. Your friends and family miss you dearly. Memorial services was held on Friday, June 12, 2009 at 10 am in the First Baptist Church in Umatilla.In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Umatilla Baptist Church P.O.
