August 27, 1926 - November 7, 2019
Elaine Kingsley Reichenbacher passed away quietly in her sleep on November 7, 2019. She was born in Normal, Illinois on August 27, 1926, the youngest of three children of Howard and Edith Kingsley. Howard was a professor at Boston University and wrote a college textbook, "The Nature and Conditions of Learning". in 1938, Edith started The Kingsley School which was novel for the time by helping children with learning challenges of all sorts so that they could return to mainstream education. Her son, Lowell, became principal and held that position for several decades. Her other son, Howard, also started a school and was an educator. Elaine earned a bachelor's degree at Oberlin College and continued her education at Boston University which awarded her a Master's degree. Shortly after that, she met Charles James Reichenbacher who she married on February 18, 1950. Charles had a career in public service as a Civil Engineer for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Elaine had three boys, David, Mark and Bruce. She became a teacher at The Kingsley School in Boston, and also taught classical and fold guitar. Her earnings helped her three boys attend a private school which prepared them well both academically and in life skills. Each of her sons continued the family tradition of teaching in some form. Charles passed away in July 1979 and a few years after that Elaine decided to move to Eustis, Florida. Not long after she moved, she met Jim Lowman and they were partners for three decades. They both loved music and became accomplished players of dulcimer and guitar. They started a local group of musicians that enjoyed playing mountain music. This group met monthly for several years. After Jim passed away in 2016, she moved into Ruleme Place assisted living in Eustis, Florida and she lived there for the reminder for her life. She is survived by three married sons and six grandchildren; Andre, Joe, Jennifer, Catherine Jessica "CJ", Luna and Lisa. Final arrangements are to be determined.
